About ECRI.

Responsibility and Sustainability

We understand that sustainability is an important aspect of fulfilling our mission and a way to gauge our responsibilities to our business, the planet and its people.

Sustainability

Environmental sustainability, social sustainability and financial sustainability are recognised as interdependent. We support the UN sustainable development goals and contribute to these whenever appropriate.

Environmental Sustainability

Our office uses BS 8001:2017 and other resources for guidance to sustainable performance. Environmental sustainability is a major focus in healthcare and concepts such as the circular economy are growing in importance. For example, in the UK, the NHS has an ambitious plan to be the first National Health Service to be Net Zero Carbon.

Changes in climate and pollutants have an effect on patients and healthcare systems globally, creating a myriad of new challenges from dealing with a changing spread of disease, to assisting disrupted medicine supply chains.

The UK office has moved to a more energy efficient building, with low energy lighting systems and electrical car charging points. The policy supporting remote working, reduced use of physical marketing materials, increased use of video conferencing and being more mindful of travel help further reduce emissions and environmental impact. ECRI is also adopting business systems to improve quality and reduce waste.

ECRI achieves the greatest impact through supporting our customers and patients by helping drive sustainable healthcare. Our services help healthcare organisations to plan and adopt the most effective and appropriate healthcare delivery. From examples such as helping enable more energy-efficient hospital design, reducing waste, promoting equipment sharing and utilisation, optimising medical device lifespan and improving the quality of care, ECRI has an impact on supporting environmental sustainability for our customers in multiple ways.

We don’t just want to avoid compromising the needs of future generations. As an organisation we strive to make positive advancements for the future.

Social Sustainability

ECRI’s work helps over 5000 members to better serve their patients globally.

ECRI’s work also benefits non-members, for example, the free resources produced to help fight COVID-19 and our work on clinical guidelines. We also provide safety guidance and other resources supporting healthcare workers.

Locally we are pleased to support the socially sustainable work of the Amalthea Trust by providing some resources to help their work in the training of Biomedical Engineers in Africa. https://www.amaltheatrust.org.uk/about-us

Our office promotes inclusivity of its employees and future employees. We don’t just support this principle but depend on it. Our different backgrounds and lived experiences help to effectively serve our diverse range of customers and patients across the globe. ECRI also actively promotes employee wellbeing through a variety of resources and benefits.

ECRI encourages all stakeholders to support the UK government’s ambitions in eradicating modern slavery as per the 2015 Modern Slavery Act.

Financial Sustainability

ECRI has been serving patients and healthcare organisations for over 50 years. The UK based office was established over 25 years ago.

The financial sustainability of ECRI and healthcare organisations is symbiotic. By improving the economy, quality and effectiveness of care we help ensure resources are well used and our customers and patients benefit. ECRI is investing in its business systems and people to continue delivering good value and making your investment with us increasingly advantageous. Our service range and network is growing and ECRI were chosen to implement one of the largest projects of its kind, providing multinational horizon scanning for IHSI.

ECRI has strict conflict of interest policies that protect our reputation as one of the most trusted voices in healthcare. We are a non-profit organisation.
