User-Contributed Procedures Now on ECRI Institute's IPM Web Page
ECRI Institute's Health Devices Inspection and Preventive Maintenance (IPM) System Web page - available to IPM System users through www.ecri.org - has recently been updated to include 34 user-contributed IPM procedures. The procedures are manufacturer and model specific and have been customised for such devices as anaesthesia units, infusion pumps, and ventilators.
The IPM System is a Windows-compatible program that provides a database of ECRI Institute-developed IPM procedures and forms for commonly inspected devices and systems. One of the useful features of this program is that users can easily take the procedures provided and create new or modified procedures for additional device types and models. Through the IPM Web page, users can post their customised procedures or download the procedures created by fellow users. New and modified procedures are also occasionally posted by ECRI Institute.
ECRI Institute's IPM System, which is distributed in CD-ROM format, contains 72 procedures for more than 150 devices. ECRI Institute's procedures derive from Health Devices Evaluations and Hazard Reports as well as from ECRI Institute's accident investigations. That means that ECRI Institute's procedures are based on clinically significant considerations, not just on manufacturers' recommendations.
In addition to the database of procedures and forms, the system includes a collection of articles that offer guidance on operating, monitoring, and optimizing an IPM program. This material serves as an in-depth resource for complying with regulations, standards, and workplace safety requirements.
The IPM System also offers seamless integration with ECRI Institute's HECST maintenance management system. For more information about the Health Devices IPM System, contact ECRI Institute at info@ecri.org.uk
